A lot more to see

Here’s the next preview of Ultra NT, which rearranges the Menu and Fast Forward buttons, and adds some enhancements to the display; the game output is now cropped to the title safe area so games can take full advantage of the display space.

Games in this era were usually designed to be cropped, but if you’re experiencing disruptive cropping, you might want to check the in-game settings menu for screen adjustments. If you encounter a game that is overly cropped and doesn’t have a way to adjust it, let me know and I might consider changing the crop amount.

There’s also a subtle CRT effect to help enhance the appearance of games. Filters in Delta are somewhat limited (or maybe my knowledge of CoreImage is limited) compared to some other emulators, but I think this set of filters adds a nice effect that isn’t too overpowering.

WARNING: Challenger Approaching

I knew the ‘right answer’ for Ultra NT wouldn’t just be one controller layout, but I started with the layout that would enable me to play Banjo-Kazooie more easily because that’s the game I always struggled with using touch screen controls. The first of these alternate layouts has a traditional D-Pad, with C buttons on the right side of the controller. You can use Delta’s ability to set a skin for a specific game to apply whichever layout works best for what you’re trying to play!

There is likely at least one other layout that will help you play whatever N64 games you might have, but that’s all for now! I know that I will eventually want to do a limited set of color variations, including a couple of transparent editions, for Ultra NT so I’m trying to plan ahead for those. There will likely be one layout for Portrait for each color available, with a heavy focus being on landscape mode the star of the show.
